Hi, I'm Sy!
I'm a neurodivergent & non-binary artist who's hard of hearing/wears hearing aids.
I'm just here trying my best to create silly & uplifting art in a dark & harsh world!!
I hand make everything myself in my home studio/my safe space :)
here is some more info about me and my business...
The name 'Sykie' is pronounced like 'Psyche' and is just a more fun & silly way of spelling it. My brain has never liked how it was spelt so naturally I created my own version and decided it was perfect name for my art business.
It started in 2021, a year after my autism and adhd diagnosis - this was pivotal for me as it helped me to accept myself enough to start actually making & sharing my art.
Another turning point for me was seeing other non-binary people exist in the world and seeing myself in them. I finally felt like I could truly exist as myself and stop trying to fit into a mould I never was. Instead, I sculpted and formed a person I could finally recognise. And regardless of my exterior even,
(whether I'm more masculine presenting or feminine) my interior has always felt the same. (think: grey alien... or blue, or a teal lumpfish- . that's me right there)
I spent many years feeling useless due to the fact that I left school at 14. This was because of my undiagnosed autism and adhd, and it left me stuck isolated in my bedroom for a long time after.
But my diagnosis several years later (in 2020) brought me self acceptance and my identity brought me comfort enough to have a go at life and start eventually creating.
I have created all sorts of things for Odd Sykie over the years, but I mainly come back to making silly animals for sillier humans to collect. My main aim is to bring little bits of joy into peoples lives through my silly but meaningful creations.
In the last year I have gotten into mould making with my clay creations. This process alows me to share my art with others in more exciting and colourful ways. These handmade Art Toys & figurines are made in small batches that people can collect.
My illustrations and sculptures are inspired by things that bring me joy - the colours blue & pink, cartoons, gummy sweets, translucent creatures, aquariums, y2k clear tech, street art & silly animals
I hope my creations bring the same sort of whimsical joy to you too!!
Thanks for being here & for finding out more about me <3
Stay odd - sykie xxx
